Finale may also have found that getting 2004 to be OSX compatible may have cost them many more development dollars than they had planned and so they extended the offer because they needed a much larger cash infusion than they had originally planned when they made their upgrade-income projections.
If 2004 falters in its Mac implementation, Coda may be in big trouble financially -- I would bet that the vast majority of Mac users did NOT upgrade to 2003 because it wasn't OSX compatible and if they don't upgrade this time either, it won't look pretty in the Coda accounting department.

I don't know, Richard. Like I said, I've never seen them extend the "special early bird" price for so long, nor introduce an "upgrade from any version for $99" deal after the early bird expires, not extend deals of any sort into the summer like this. It's pure speculation of course, but this suggests to me that the upgrade was not widely adopted and Coda didn't meet their targets for Fin2003.
