The improvements in F2003 were very substantial in the implementation of
tablature. This list seems to include few who would have a use for this, so
I would not conclude that they misjudged the general market.

To be sure, there's nothing to be gained by my being correct about whether
Coda misjudged the attraction of their 2003 product. I don't have an axe to
grind with Coda at all and I truly want them to be very successful. After
all, if we are to have cutting edge product and our investment of time in
learning it to be worthwhile, Coda MUST be successful.

But I must say that if tablature is the defense for 2003, why was their
Guitar product necessary? If you mean to suggest that the market for
tablature improvements is broader than is represented on this list and in
fact is large enough to warrant that being the major improvement offered in
Finale 2003, I have to say I'd be surprised. It's a fact not known to me,
which doesn't mean squat of course.

I hope I'm not breaking any confidences here if I say that a little birdie told me that guitar tab was Coda's number-one most-requested feature for Fin2003, which is why it was implemented -- the most-requested features get top priority. (I was surprised too, but there you go.)

Apparently the Fin2003 also sold very, very well. So there you go -- I was completely wrong. I guess Coda's more aggressive advertising campaign for Fin2003 wasn't spurred by slumping sales after all. Or maybe it was, and the massive ad blitz turned things around. Who knows?

Anyway, I got *another* flier for Finale 2003 in the mail today. Offer expires 30 June 2003. So I guess if Coda is planning on keeping their 45-day complimentary upgrade policy (i.e., if you buy Fin2003 within 45 days of the release of Fin2004, you get a free upgrade to 2004), then I guess we shouldn't expect Fin2004 until mid-August at the absolute earliest.

But hey -- I've been wrong before.
