yes, companies do grant other software companies access to OS source 
code - sometimes there is a fee, sometimes its only NDA, but always at 
very least NDA. you can get the source code to windows, if you sign an 
NDA, and fork over 323,546,145,632.00, and your youngest child. its how 
software can be made to integrate so well with the OS and things like 
that.. im not sure what apple's stance is on this tho.
