Like any other company, Dell can have problems as well. I've overseen the purchase of a dozen Dell machines over the past few years and none of them has had any problems, and my Dell Inspiron 7500 has been a great machine, very reliable and still going strong 4 years later... the only problem is that I want to get Unix without all the fuss of Linux/FreeBSD... I'm not really worried about the virus a day because procmail takes care of all the attachments at the server level... I think I'm going to hold out for the time being. I'll definitely get the AppleCare when the time comes... Don't think I'll get a refurb... I like that "fresh out of the box" experience... I will keep an eye out, however. As for speed, my current machine is a 650mhz Pentium3 with 512ram, so pretty much anything is going to be a good step up, and I'm sure even VPC will be faster.
