I think an external FireWire is, indeed, a good choice for me. I looked at
the Outpost.com site to see if I could find an enclosure for the drive Harry
recommended and found a pre-built Seagate 200Gb FireWire/Combo drive for
$169 with a $50 rebate (Outpost item number 4015532). By the time I add a
$50 enclosure to the $70 Maxtor drive, the two options cost the same, and
shipping may make the Seagate a little cheaper.

The Outpost site doesn't have any info regarding OS support for the Seagate,
but I found this on another site about that drive:
> € Mac Users:
> - Available USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 port, available Windows
> certified IEEE 1394a(FireWire) port
> - Mac OS X, Mac OS 9.x, MAC OS 8 (backup software does not
> support Mac OS 9.x or Mac OS 8.6)

Since I don't care about their backup software, that doesn't matter to me.

Can you think of any reason why this wouldn't be a good buy? Are Seagate
drives not good, or are Maxtor drives just a whole lot better?

Thanks,
Joy
