Hi Mark,

We rarely defrag anything and until recently we had very little DASD.  Most of
our batch processes allocate to a single work pool. All allow multi-file
allocations.  Every night, a CA-Disk process runs to pick up the previous day's
datasets from the workpool and mov e them to a hold pool.  Datasets are trimmed
to allocated size and, if less than 1 cyl. converted to track. The HOLDxx packs
are filled.  After 4 days of non-use, datasets are archived.  The disk
acrhive/tape archive line i s adjusted based on how much di sk was available
vs. the slower restore times from tape.

HTH,

Linda Mooney

I'll research DVC.   Thanks.
