As previously mentioned Intel quit using the x86 naming convention for its
processors because they could not trademark a NUMBER. However, if you really
want to get technical the designation flow would go like this:

Pentium = 80586 = 586
PentiumII = 80686 = 686
PIII = 80786 = 786
Pentium M = 80886 = 886
Core Duo = 80886 = 886
