Q: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation.
A: Why is top posting frowned upon?
(thanks derf!)

Here is my idea to resolve top and bottom posts.

The example you have posted seems factually incorrect. There is no differential between original and reply. Is email conversation? I donot understand Email as equivalent to conversation.

For some who prefer top posting it is a conceptual matter. Email has been adapted from normal letter writing.

Snail Mail is a derogatory condemnation of letter writing. Letter writing protocols have been developed over centuries.

Are they not a part of our culture? Including the original after the content of a letter could be offensive.

Would you like to receive a letter with this form?

Some children tend to do this. Would you consider this normal practice for adults?

Now consider a comparison to when you are actually speaking.

Do you enjoy hearing a speaker repeat every word that you or another has said every time they reply.
After a few exchanges it becomes farcical IMO.

In letter writing the place to refer to previous correspondence is the section that is "Subject" in the email protocol.

As an example I have added references to the "Subject" line above.

Even better would be to include a link to previous posts in the subject line.

Using this method you avoid the angst that top posters cause bottom posters.

You avoid the bottom posters having to scroll. Seems a win win solution to me.

It could solve the problem of those who do not cut or edit. And think of all those ads we would not have to read.

As well it would reduce the size of the emails for those who have limited bandwidth.

Vic.
