Intel has ditched the 80686 style processor numbering, as of several years
ago.

Then I guess they don't make "x86" processors anymore. KIND OF MY POINT.

A simple Google
Search for: "core duo" x86
Will reveal NUMEROUS WEBSITES stating that the Core Duo is an x86 processor.

Except Intel's.

Again, who am I supposed to believe -- dorks and geeks, or the actual company themselves?

Sorry, but you're wrong. Intel has been out of the x86 processor game for years. The TERM "x86" is still in popular parlance as shorthand for "any chip Intel makes," but that's the same as your grandfather referring to any record-playing device as a Victrola. We know what he means, but that doesn't make him any less incorrect.

FACT: The term "x86" is archaic, obsolete and inaccurate. So says Intel. If you have a problem with that, take it up with them.

Cheers
Chas
