Have you tried HTML5 YouTube?

Yes, from info given here. Two results:

1) It's better. But it's a better sequence of still pictures. :(
2) You only get HTML5 *IF* the video doesn't have an ad on it and there are only a small number of those.

So, effectively, it's not better enough to make it usable.
