Let me try my proposal one more time... For CD based installs, we need
to have multiple installer for each of the most popular window managers.
For a network or DVD install, you get choose one or more window
managers. In my environment I an required to support multiple window
managers, so I will either use the DVD, network installers, or the CD
and install the other WM packages I need later. The only thing gained by
a poll is to determine which one comes first.

Right now I can choose Ubuntu or Kbuntu, or make a selection of window
managers in Suse. Neither one has said they don't support Gnome or KDE,
so why should we? In this framework, your proposal simply says if we
don't choose KDE as the first one out the chute, then it is unfair. I
say that the only unfair option would be not supporting a window manager.

I think we are basically on the same side, but we view the world from a
different perspective. If you take too strong a hard-line position then
there is no compromise. If we can't figure out a way to get the
community off the dime and past trivial issues as this, then we might as
well stop here and all go home.
