All programming realities aside, when HJ put out a public beta and about two
weeks later says that the final copies are being cranked out... well, that
just
begs for trashing! I am sure that a lot of hard work was done and that those
who have been private beta testers for HJ have been working at it for a while,
but those aren't the people who are most upset! The general public, by
definition, can't move as fast as the inner circle. I know that by the time I
downloaded, installed and began testing the JFW beta, all critical decisions
had already been made. My suggestions and observations were read but generally
not explained or responded to, let alone, fixed. No time had been allotted for
this. Every piece of software is to some degree unfinished. That's not the
problem! Just don't ask me for my opinion and then when I give it tell me that
you've already decided what to do about it. If HJ had put out the public beta
and said that by a certain day... about a month or two into the future... all
testing would be over and a list of the improvements resulting from the
beta is
published so that folks can see the improvements and decide when or if to buy
the upgrade... get my drift?
You just can't have it both ways! Either you are open and friendly with your
user base and respond and acknowledge their participation or you just put out
what you've got to offer whenever you are ready and take the hits as they
come.
I still like JFW and I still keep forking out money to get what I need but is
it heretical to complain and feel used, abused or ignored? Hey, a little
wimpering feels good from time to time. Maybe HJ should listen a little and
have a little sympathy. You would be surprised at how little this costs and
how
far it can take you.
