"Conservatism: An ideology positing that the most important goal of
politics is to create stable communities based on a hierarchy of power, in
which leaders and followers have a reciprocal responsibilities and
obligations. Unlike liberalism, conservatism is not suspicious of power and
does not seek to limit the control of the state. Rather, the point of
conservatism is that the power should be in a traditional class of
ulers." - Power & Choice, W. Phillips Shively. (PoliSci 110 text.)

Traditionally, in many different cultures, churches claim that ruling class.

American Conservatism is something completely different and is noted as such
by political scientists, and in every book on political science I've ever
read.

True conservatism is favoured by military and religious-based governments.
I'd imagine that Osama bin Laden is a good example of the conservative
political ideology, which is certainly how the Taliban runs things.

American Conservatives (and Liberals) would do well to find new titles - the
ones they have now are almost ironic. (And not in the Alanis Morrisette
way)

Jenaya... who thinks she should have gotten a better grade in that class

I know I should not respond to this. I know I should try not to react and
be baited. I know that some people here will in the future throw digs at me
for this. I am shaking all over. This remark from a man of God is just as
hateful as Falwell's remarks. Compaing "conservatives" to Bin Laden. This
is vile. Kakki
