Yeah: I knew there was this danger of lumping in Madonna with the others
and I did consider changing it but decided not to because she was one of
the original people mentioned in the quote. I do believe she is higher
class than the others in musical terms, although I would ever buy
anything by her myself. I am posting this to you as an immediate response
and I will probably expand on this when I see the other reactions. I
agree with you totally but felt that making the point about sexism was
more important than trying to make a league table of people I feel to be
more or less untalented. Sorry if it offends. Mike.

Madonna does not deserve to be lumped in with those other three names,
not by a long chalk. If nothing else, her longevity sets her apart.
I've already made my case about the worth of some of her records, so I
won't go through that again... Interestingly, while you are right that
Hammer and Vanilla Ice were not criticised for being men, Vanilla Ice WAS
heavily slated because of his colour. I don't know what this tells us
