I believe the Second World War brought peace. It created new tensions, yes, with the Soviet Union, and arguably in the Middle East, and we see today some of the consequences of that.

But it also defeated Hitler, liberated the Jewish and other victims in the concentration camps, and eventually created a united Europe, which is today merging into one nation.

That has to count as peace of sorts. Had the war not been fought, Europeans might have lived under fascism for many years, and maybe still.
