I have a fully working network using DHCP, Dachstein 1.02 two floppy version. Work just gave me a laptop with WinXP installed. In the documents, I see where you can have two ip stacks and WinXP will use the correct stack.
Problem is work and home networks use DHCP, work also uses WINS with a static IP address. I tried to not use the work domain when booting up at home, however I am not the admin so I can't change. The laptop will acquire a local IP, however it also latches onto the work WINS server. The IP stack shows the hostname to be legerk.corp.ccity.com on the laptop, while my home pc's show leger.private.netowrk as the hostname. I can access my lotus notes e-mail with the laptop connected to the home network, however no other internet functions work. (i.e.. internet explorer, dns, personal mail, etc)I can share files TO the laptop, however the laptop can not see the other computers on the home network, nor does it see any on the work domain. I see one possible fix, run a WINS service on my private network to stop from acquiring the work WINS server. With the old laptop using WinME, I had no problems using DHCP on either network and everything worked on either network. WinXP does not act the same on my home network. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can correct this problem or where to look for help? MIS states since I am running a firewall, that is my problem. I think they are incorrect. thanks ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: Influence the future of Java(TM) technology.
