Does anyone know how to make Netscape windows be placed according to the
placement policy of the window manager instead of in the upper left

In my case, this was caused by using the wrong init string for the
modem. YMMV.

Also, adding -tempFile (yes, the 'f' is capitalized) will instruct
acrobat to erase the temporary file once you close the reader, otherwise
they build up without your knowledge.
The path should look like this:
/path to acrobat/acroread -tempFile %s
The reader also comes with a readme file that explains this better.

Yes, there is even a book about regular expressions, but use
egrep here ...
egrep -n "foo|bar"
... to print all lines which contain the text foo OR bar.
f(ast)grep is supposed to be, well, faster but less powerful
expression while e(xtended)grep understands the most advanced
regular expressions.
Leaving out any GNU specific extensions and exceptions here.

Plus, if it works as they saey, namelly automatically, then it will
delete files of the same name on your harddrive and turn them into
links.
Not every file that has the same name, is identical.

I believe you get the same CD.
For example I get the Redhat 6.1 86x install for ~$2 from cheapbytes.
I would get the same CD from redhat plus the extra cds with the other
shareware or/and what ever else is bundled with the install cd for
some more money with support thrown in.

Are you thinking that C:\Windows is needed to run wine? If so, you are
mistaken. You do not need MS-Windows at all to run wine.
Maybe you want to know if wine will let you access C:\Windows on the
other drive? It wont. You will need to compile the modules for
the msdos file system and install them.
Easy way to meake wine work? No. Well, it depends on what you call
"easy". Some people think that a RedHat install is not "easy".
Installing wine is "easy" but it takes some planning.

I like rgrep; it search recursively -r and follow links, -F option.
So rgrep -lFr something / will scan recursively and find your file faster
than a classic grep if rgrep catch the link. -l displays a path to your
file. It accepts regular expressions. You may print a scan result and
highlight it -h (ansi compatible terminal).

OK - I give.
On Solaris, there's a file: /etc/default/login
It contains several settings, one of which is:
CONSOLE=/dev/console
which, if commented allows remote root logins. Uncommented, you must
login remotely as a regular user and su. In other words, root can only
directly log in locally.
Where is the equivalent on Linux? Not that I want to do this (due to
security reasons), but I've been asked and would like to know. I've been
unable to find it via a (rather empirical) search.
Thanks in advance.

The PATH variable gets defined via number of shell scripts (actually any
script could potentially defind this variable).
You can define your own PATh variable in your .profile or .login script
(check your home directory!).
Quick tip: While creating your own PATH, don't forget to include $PATH
variable in it, or otherwise you will overwrite the values of PATH variable
set in global shell scripts. Example:
PATH=$PATH:/home/user/myscripts;export PATH
Which will search for scripts in /home/user/myscripts and allow you to
execute them without specifying full path.
Good luck!

There is a similiar problem with MS OS products.
Many people pronounce MS Windows as WindBlows or WinDozes. These particular
pronuciations are not the result of race, creed, religion, monetary status
or place of birth.
I know of next door neighbours who have numerous conflicting verbal
descriptions for MS Windows, sometimes they don't even begin to resemble the
MS approved spelling; "Piece Of Sh_t" comes to mind.
Just one guy's opinion.
