Professional should not have to try, it should just be instinct and nature. > What medium are people using to socialize beyond email that > was created > back in 1988 that is still widely used in 2011. > > > You are making no sense. It is 2011. People have been using IRC to socialize for over 2 decades. Like C, Unix, and other things, its not going anywhere, as its been in use for years. > If we knew the future we would all be rich, but to blatantly ignore > the technology of the present just because it might not be around in > 20 years is absolutely ridiculous and you know it. Do the referees in a football game play? Are they not the ones who make the calls in the game? How do the referees have an clue if they are not playing the game? If fact most things that monitor and report on things do not participate ;) > Let's just get rid of computers then too, or jets for that matter. We > lived perfectly fine before any of that too. You are making a false > argument. Funny you mention that. I guess you forget about the past LUG member who did just that and started a scuba diving company in Pensacola. Last post from him, he was much happier and way more content. Same could be said for the lady who cuts my hair from Africa. Who plans to return for her retirement and live in a grass shack. Reminds me of openvz comparison of the car to the bike, bike to the car. > Ah, no, you are incorrect. IRC does not "dwarf" Twitter at all. There > is not 175 million people on IRC right now. So I can't start a IRC server on my machine right now? Private IRC networks do not exist, only public ones. NO IRC in China where Twitter is banned, or other countries. There is no means to measure IRC activity world wide. Also who is to say what Twitter reports is accurate? Is Twitter a public company? Is there any third party company producing stats for Facebook and Twitter, with regard to activity and usage? You think a company like Facebook and Twitter would be proud to report any declines in activity or otherwise? Or in Twitters case say IRC is still more widely used and beneficial. I would love to try to communicate with another developer on a technical manner in 140 characters.... I do participate with SMS and its caused many issues. Mainly when people insist on lengthy conversations over SMS, which it was not intended for such. Best to pick up the phone at that point and have a conversation, or send an email. Not limited in characters, lacking context, and on a phone you can hear tone of voice and other things. > Yes I missed out, I never created a myspace page. > > Who knows, maybe you did and you will never know. Well then guess I need to change every aspect of my life and thought process. Thank you for pointing out how wrong I am, so I can correct myself in your opinion. Since you have such bearing and relevance to my life. > I have multiple open source projects including a big one that is > about to get unveiled at Black Hat and Defcon this year. Project names? Then I could not piss people off with my tone, or anything. Since there would be no mailing list, no wiki, no domain name as a month ago, and no meetings. Much less other things :) > Nice community building skills you have. Lets see facts show that since 2003, the first year the JaxLUG had a meeting every month was last year. I do take credit for making that happen, and clearly shows I have some skill there. You can say what ever you want with your opinion. But again how people read things is up to them. Just like reading a book, and then watching the movie. Never the same, because we all see things through our own eyes ;) > I knew I should have just deleted these emails, but I didn't. That > part of this is my fault entirely and I apologize to the list. So the JaxLUG does not factor into your work? I consider my involvement in the JaxLUG to be part of my work and profession. I make time to be involved in the JaxLUG. Its not convenient for me, but work is not supposed to be convenient. > I am not always in town when meetings happen and sometimes when I am, > I am just happy to be home. Sure, but then might I ask you. What are you doing to help or grow the local community you live in? Great to travel and work all over. But end of the day you live here. If you do not work in the area, and your not making efforts to contribute in ways so that you can work in the area. Well then not sure what to say, and not sure what you plan to gain or benefit from involvement in the JaxLUG. > It's okay to go ahead and discount previous contributions I have made > such as presentations and install fests I have helped out with just > because I haven't done anything lately. I have been around since 2003. Those contributions must have predated 2003. There is little record on the wiki of any presentations in years. Much less I was at the last install fest with you. Where barely one person showed for an install. With way to many there to do the installing. That was the same year the JaxLUG lost its structure and leadership. We had a meeting at the docking station a month or two after the install fest to discuss leadership, etc. > I tell you, I sure feel like helping out with something now.
