Contractors should be used where you have varying resource demands, such as a company that has a software project lasting 6 months and then only needs a core workforce to keep it running. Consultants should be used where you have a specific skill set is required for a fixed length of time. Freelancers should be used when you wish to reduce the risk of project failure internally.
