This is a good introduction, but has many mistakes. From the little I've seen of the "Handbook of Applied Cryptography" (can't remember the authors and too lazy to search) this looks a lot better, though it's more detailed. I should have had Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment (W. Richard Stevens) on my list too. That really is a fantastic book.
