Heh... The list was ready for a little dust up, but anyway, I agree that
this thread has been for the most part fine in terms of flaming.

One thing though, folks, is try not to villainies Apple (and CERTAINLY do
NOT villainies any repair techs) about Apple holding tight to manuals. Yes,
it sucks, but they are not the only ones in the computing industry that does
this. Most of the makers do, as a matter of fact. Also, the computer
industry is not the only ones who do this, as well.

There are other problems with Apple these days that IMHO warrant greater
froth directed at them than this, and submitted for your approval are the
following:

A) Apple's miserable processor situation. (hopefully resolved with the
emergence of the 64 bit IBM PowerPC 970? Soon??) Powermac sales are in the
toilet and will stay there until Quark gets its act together and Apple
releases next-gen processors. Then boy, will they fly off the shelf!

B) Mac OS X's speed. It's more flexible architecture allows OS X to do more
things at once which results in a faster workflow, but raw, basic tasks are
a still little bit slower.

C) As an education only offering, I think the eMac is improperly
configured and still too pricey. I think that despite Apple saying it was
PUBLIC demand that prompted them to release the eMac wide, I think that
their poor institutional sales was another reason to try and move units.
Apple needs to make a CHEAP commodity box, particularly for the education
market. A pumped up original G3 iMac design (of which, if I recall
correctly, in their last quarterly report HALF OF THEIR IMAC SALES WERE OF
THE ORIGINAL G3 DESIGN!!!) with 1GHz G3, PC133, USB II, NO FIREWIRE, 15"
CRT, CDRW, 256MB RAM, 20GB drive. Those specs would work very well as a
straight-ahead classroom solution, where Apple's vision of digital video
(and other "digital hub" uses) in the classroom is not applicable. The
current G3 (not even the eMac) is priced new at Apple's store at
CAN$1,249.00. Are they KIDDING? Price the above proposed "Dell Education
Killer" G3 at CAN$900.00... Or even cheaper.

D) Apple has to accept the fact that not all computer users need a computer
as feature rich as even the eMac. If Apple's main job these days is to
increase market share, they need to drop prices across the board. As a
matter of fact, I did a price comparison with Dell, just yesterday. Trust me
that the Dells I configured are equal in features and bundles to the iMac
(including DIGITAL flat panels, optical drives and XP Pro to equal OS X and
Firewire), and the only differences are in processors. Here's how they stack
up, in Canadian $:

15" iMac (with Combo drive): $1,999.00
Dell Dimension 4550 (2.4GHz P4 w/ 533MHz FSB!): $2,047.00
Dell Dimension 2350 (1.7GHz Celeron w/ 266MHz FSB): $1,742.00

17" iMac (with Superdrive): $2,749.00
Dell Dimension 4550 (2.4GHz P4 w/ 533MHz FSB!): $2,927.00
Dell Dimension 2350 (1.7GHz Celeron w/ 266MHz FSB): $2,552.00

Emac (G4/700, Combo drive): $1,549.00
Dell Dimension 2350 (1.7GHz Celeron w/ 266MHz FSB): $1,343.00

Emac (G4/800, Superdrive drive): $1,999.00
Dell Dimension 2350 (1.7GHz Celeron w/ 266MHz FSB): $1,673.00

As you can see, Apple should cut their prices by, say... $200.00, across the
board.

E) Recent iApps (iMovie 3, iPhoto 2) are WAY TOO DAMNED SLOW!!! And iMovie
is particularly buggy.

F) (add your issue here)
