Terry, as John C. mentioned, check the available space of the hard drive and I agree that switching email programs isn't exactly the best solution.

Shaw certainly does support Outlook Express, maybe the Windows version, but the Mac version is basically the same.

Bounced email is often due to the server account's mailbox being too full and they should check Shaw's support site: http://support.shaw.ca/ and click on 'Managing Your Email' and follow the parallel instructions on their Mac.

Also, as they suggest, use Shaw's WebMail (at the same URL) to check if their Maiboxes are full on the server. OE on the Mac may be set to 'leave messages on the server'. The Shaw techs can certainly check that as well if they phone them.

On the Mac, how large are the mailboxes - there is a limit. Deleted messages could still be in the Deleted Items 'mailbox' and should be removed, as well as compacting the Mailboxes. Hold down the Option key while starting OE and click 'Yes' in the resulting window.

What kind of attachments won't open?
Do they have a proper application installed to open them?

It sounds like a bit of maintenance might be in order as well and I'd suggest as a minimum they run Disk First Aid and click the Repair button with their drive selected.

When was the last time they rebuilt the desktop?? Hold down Command+Option during startup then click the OK and let it do its rebuild thing.

Hello all
A daughter of a friend who has an original Bondi Blue iMac contacted me with a tale of woe. She lives on Vancouver Island and uses Shaw cable as her ISP, as do her parents and I. She has been using Outlook Express as an email program, and within the last month or so, things have gone really wonky.
I don't use the program myself, so can't help her much.
Here's what she's experiencing
Bounced emails (her mom's computer, a Mac, has always assigned the daughter's emails to the "junk" file)
Attachments won't send, or if received, won't open.
She's resorted to using hotmail as her browser (unknown to me) is still running fine, but as Shaw includes the email as part of the service, she's rightfully ticked off that it doesn't work. She's tried phoning Shaw service but has been told twice that they can't help with Macs and on her third try to the Shaw service number in my town, was told that her computer is just too old.
A call to a Mac specialty shop in her town was not very helpful.

Any suggestions out there?
TIA
