Remember, some of the worst fallout from 'Nam happened years after the war was over and more ugly facts gradually emerged. A friend's father was a special forces officer who did black ops (incursions into Cambodia, etc.) during Nam. Years later, when he learned how badly he and his brother soldiers had been lied to, he renounced his U.S. citizenship and came to Canada. He did not set foot on U.S. soil up until his death and remained unspeakably bitter about the things he had done out of his loyalty to his country, but on the orders of evil liars. He did, however, wear his dogtags every day of his life.
