Rolf,
    that might be true except for 1985 W123s, and perhaps W123 
coupes,... i know at least some (if not all) '85 W123s had a taller 
ratio than preceding years, and i'm lead to believe that at least some 
of the coupes may have had a lower ratio than the sedans (perhaps to 
make them feel more sporty?).

    maybe someone with better access to part info could verify this (if 
they're interested enough).   ;-)
