'Cept one trip with freezing water in the fuel, I never had any trouble
cruising in left lane of turnpikes and interstate highways in my '80 240D;
'took a little longer getting to it, but was always able to stay with or
lead "the pack."

Phooey!
My 240D regularly sits right at 80mph for 10-15 minutes at a time. There
is no reason it shouldn't. If your car can't its because you aren't
maintaining it properly. High speed runs are the ultimate Italian tune up,
high revs and high load. In this case the wind resistance is the high
load.

IT will max out at 85, but you better not try to keep it there for longer
than a minute. Being able to get it there would be hard for a 30 year old
car.

The judge may get a kick out of this case -- however, a 240D will do
about 85 max, don't lie to him.
