I have had a stable Samba setup for quite some time now. I have no
problems and my computer works well with all the other peers. I am now
looking for ways to optimize Samba for best performance on my hardware.
This is my current setup:
Miami 3.2b (020), z2-am7990.mni version 1.5, Olaf Barthel's Samba port
version 2.06 and the SMB-Handler 0.20.
A3000 with an A3640, 16 megs fast, an A2065 using an AUI->10BaseT
transceiver and a Spetrum 28/24 graphics card under CyberGraphX 3.0 (in
case it matters).
For my testing I have been copying a large (19,542,788 byte) file from a
Win95 Pentium II 300mhz machine with a PCI 10BaseT Linksys card to my
Amiga. I mount the computers hardrive as an Amiga partition using
SMB-Handler and start the copying. I used the following small script to
time the transfer:

copy buffer=1024 Sombra-C:Win95SH/GTour.avi NULL:

where copy is the standard 3.1 copy command and NULL: is a DOSDriver using
the null-handler. I used this in order to reduce as much as possible the
writing penalty incurred for writing to an Amiga partition. Average time
for copying such a file is 50 seconds, which would make for about a
390,855 bytes per second transfer rate. Is this about what I should
expect given my current setup? Is there any way to optimize my Samba
setting for better performance? I have included the global part of my
smb.conf file. Have I missed any performance affecting options?
