Ron, I don't think you mean 600 kbps. You mean 600 kBps. The difference
is *very* significant, and you can't necessarily even tell which is
right. Remember, bytes are bigger than bits, and use a big B.

FWIW, the best I've seen in a transfer between my laptop and my Linux
box is around 700 kBps. Both ends should have more than enough power to
not affect the rate (C400 and a PCMCIA NIC in one, 2xC520 and a PCI NIC
in the other, DMA HDs all around). I don't think it can go much faster
than that.
