Bob,

Thanks - I do find instrumentation quite cool, and understand the difference
you mentioned.  As I get used to this boat my current plan is to go slowly
with the instruments, as I want to work on getting my head out of the boat
and also minimize the instruments stuck on (and things poked through) the
boat until I'm sure of what I really want.  So it will take me a while to
figure out if I'll be a techie dweeb or minimalist troglodyte.  Depth
sounders are a good idea, IMHO.

For now the wind indicator decision for me is a no-brainer: given the
rotating mast, it seems best to wait.  At the Annapolis boat show the rep
from Layline told me that the Tack Tick folks are working on the rotating
mast bit - since it's all based on fluxgates it should be just a matter of
comparing the wind heading from the boat's heading.  But so far I haven't
heard anyone glowing about a rotating mast wind instrument (much less an
affordable one), have you?

Thanks again.

Regards,

Gene
