http://www.comnavmarine.com/html/cmnv_NX2_intro.htm ) system has a mast
rotation compensating system (see part No. 85028) that works quite well. Not
perfectly, but very good. It utilizes a small hockey-puck sized fluxgate
compass that mounts somewhere on the mast. (Inside the rotation yoke down
near the deck works well.) The second component is another little fluxgate
compass that mounts anywhere inside the boat. The 3rd item is a little black
box that performs the arithmetic on the two compasses and sends the
corrected signal to the Nexus CPU. Finally, Nexus has a digital-graphic wind
display (part No. 85002, "Wind Data") that simultaneously (and graphically)
shows true and apparent wind direction (if you have a speed input device of
some sort). I really like the whole system. In particular, I like being able
to see that elusive true wind angle.
I admit that getting the settings right on the rotating mast compensator
were tricky. And the folks on Lei Loe have had quite a bit of trouble
getting theirs set-up correctly. But John Josephson in Vancouver WA is a
capable and determined support person.
