thanks for all that info!

so i have already been at work on the desk (taking out old connectors, 
cleaning, resoldering, etc... 
my trusty Hakko 808  has been hard at work! i can't imagine doing this without 
it!
as for an iron... i'm using a stahl TCSS - nothing fancy, but sure seems to 
work fine. 

i know exactly how many 10's and 12' s i need for the entire desk... the one's 
on the mouser page look pretty close. the goal is to buy 2 10's and 2 12's 
(enough for one input mod) and try it... if it fits well then i'll get the 
rest. i will probably call someone there with an exact measurement of the male 
pins on the cards... anything to ensure that i dont buy 300 of the wrong part!

that howard electronics site is pretty cool... one of those auto-feeding 
soldering irons would be pretty handy on this job!
