Thanks very much Steve, it worked exactly as you said, although
disconcertingly it took a second reboot for my sound card and network access
to work. I did check the Newbie archive but couldn't find any posts that
answered my question. I expect most new people like me would just try to
follow the instructions on the site, which haven't been modified and don't
quite work. Anyway, thanks very much once again, Tom
