You (like so many people that try the same stunt) have completely
forgotten that RC1 is just a snapshot of cooker and it's *old* now. The
latest kernel, initscripts, alsa utils etc are available as soon as you
configure a cooker and contrib source for urpmi to use.

I'm not trying to put anyone down but if you're going to test betas and
release candidates remember there are still bugs to hunt and squash and
that the release is still a moving target for bug chasers even after
"Final."

Upgrade that RC1 to latest cooker, you'll be a lot happier, and read the
cooker mailing list paying attention to posts yesterday from Austin and
Danny. The ones about sound and SB Live (and Quattro) and surround
systems.

I have a SoundBlaster Live Value 1024 in this box, sound is a bit tinny
at the moment but the bugs are still being hunted down. Altec Lansing
AVS 500 speakers and they "surround" me just fine.

Don't get discouraged, OK? From what I've seen of your posting you seem
to be doing fine with the dreaded GNU/Linux learning curve. :)

Peace;
Charlie
