First, let me tell you that I have several linux box at home, and that
one of them is running for two months, without a reboot. And still I
could say that it's running for one year, since the reboots are ONLY due
to electricity failures or hardware upgrades!!

You have to realize that your linux system REALLY rarely crashes. Your
problems come from the applications you use under linux. And I'm sure
that most (if not all) of your system hangs could have been resolved by
telneting from another computer, and killing the faulty processes.

But that beeing said, I must admit that I could not help you with your
problems, as I don't use (and so don't know) KDE. In fact, I hate KDE.
I'm sure it can help newbies, but it's an enourmous (and often useless)
loss of system ressources and memory. And I already underwent problems
such as yours. That's what made me give it up.

Try to use enlightenment (or even windowmaker). I'm sure you will have a
lot fewer problems with those ones.
