[newbie] Network is unreachable

Hi All

A new install of Linux-Mandrake 7.0, with networking set up by the
installation.

a 3Com905B-TX, recognized as eth0 using 3c59x, and coming up O.K.

Ping reads 'Network is unreachable'
Traceroute reads 'Can't find any network interfaces'

The same exact problem happened with a Kingston 10/100 card using tulip.

The hardware is O.K. (Win98 and 2000 on the same box using both cards O.K.)
