Lille 1 (Olufade min.86) - Deportivo 1 (Valeron min.48)

LILLE: Wimbee; Pichot, Fahmi, Cygan, Ecker; Landrin (Bassir, min.60), N'Diaye,
D'Amico, Bruno Cheyrou (Murati, min.77); Sterjovski (Olufade, min.73), Bakari.

DEPORTIVO: Molina; Hector, Donato, Naybet, Romero; Duscher, Emerson; V ctor (Scaloni,
min.70), Valer n (Sergio, min.79), Fran (Amavisca, min.63); Pandiani.

Depor got a taste of their own medicine last night. After a sluggish start they
dominated the game. Once again Valeron was their outstanding player, and just after
the break he waltzed Giggs-like through the Lille defence to open the scoring. Unused
to being ahead, Depor didnít know what to do, and after taking off their most creative
players surrendered the initiative and ultimately two points.

The Depor coach, Jabo Irureta, has noticed that they are picking up a lot of injuries.
he lays the blame on the intensity of their recent spate of twice weekly
fightbacks.'It's like we are playing a cup-final every game' he said, though obviously
in Spanish. Sounds like a rendition of '2-1 in your cup final' will be order on
Wednesday, or if you prefer 'dos - uno en vuestra final de la copa'. Surprisingly
no-one seems to have been injured last night, though Yugoslav central defender
Djorovic came back from international duty at the weekend crocked. Irureta is
considering hurrying back Brazilian headcase Djalminha, possibly on the bench this
weekend for the first time this season, and we could well see him at OT.

Depor have been fined 10,000 swiss francs by UEFA (a massive 4,000 quid aproximately)
for 'inappropriate behaviour' by their fans during the game against us at Riazor last
month. No indication as to what that is all about, though there was the odd flare let
off.'

Last word from Ken Jones article in the Indy

'As for those who once vilified Beckham and now stand in high praise,
there is only one word. Pathetic.'
