I saw this too.  I think it would get in the way of a 'lifepath' system that
told you when to advance in level.  It shouldn't get in the way of a
'lifepath' system that awarded experience points, so long as you didn't tell
the player what to do with those experience points.

Now, if there was a roleplaying aspect to a 'lifepath' or 'career', I think
we would finally be stepping away from a 'character creation' system.
Still, it is a thinly veiled attempt to circumvent 3.1.1, a strategy that I
think should avoid, at least as long as the d20 STL is still unfinished.
