Elaine, I have two drives- one is a combo drive (the one with the problem) the other is CD Rom. I wish they would have sent me the files on CD! Honestly, if anyone knows how to put this restore disc onto a CD please tell me so after I fix this I can also have these files on CD just in case.
On the combo drive- the cd part works- I can play and burn CDs. On that same drive, I cannot play or burn DVDs. I've since learned from Gateway that there are two lasers in that drive. One for CD and one for DVD. So they think the laser part of the DVD burner is bad. But that doesn't explain why PowerDVD had to be reinstalled and why my system restore doesn't work now.
