Why do you want to reduce file size ? Storage space is so cheap now. It doesn't really matter.
I don't think it is a storage space issue so much as a bandwidth issue.
I think Shel is trying to optimize images for internet display.
I have noticed that his pictures seem to look better than most of the stuff I see on the net.
