I'd like to piggy-back on this thread with two questions:

1. Doug and Stan gave praises for Kirk plates.
So, what makes them different (and good)?


2.  I like the idea of the universal (arca-swiss + RC2) clamp plate that 
Larry has referenced:

I wonder if there are any drawbacks because of this functionality



3. I also wonder if there are such universal plates that are compatible
with arca-swiss and RC5 at the same time.

The latter question is probably aimed at Cotty, - as he has (had) a head
that takes RC5, - Manfrotto 3433:

(It used to be used with #3433PL plates, which are now replaced with
501PL, and the new heads are 501, 503 and NG).
This type of heads/QR plates are typically used for video-cameras.
