hi, what i meant was:  there was an ISO HDLC spec/standard 
(where even PPP framing/error-correction was patterned with)
but vendor-specific implementations popped out where cisco 
happens to be the 'big' player.  since everybody was into cisco, 
Cisco-HDLC emerged to be the 'de facto' standard. now,
even Netopia series routers, Sangoma and Cyclades linux
wan cards support Cisco-HDLC for encapsulation.  
no more interoperability problems these days =)
