Hello,

There several things to isolate on leased line connections:

router1--- modem1---- leased line-----modem2---router2

1. Check if your router interfaces are Ok.
         - put the modems on loopback mode "LL" on Nokia or Pandacom modems.
         - on the cisco router a "show interface" should say that "Serial
is UP" ,
           "Protocol UP (looped)"
         - if your router cant see that loop you either have a defective
modem or clocking
            problems on the leased line.

2. Check if lease line is ok
         - put one of the modems (modem on the side of NETOPIA) in
loopback mode "DL" . again cisco router "show interface" should be
"Serial Up, Protocol UP (looped)
         - if your router cant see the loop most likely there is problem
with the leased line.

The best way to check compatibility of both routers is to do back to back
test.

Cisco ---- back to back ------ Netopia

You will need a V.35 DCE cable on the Cisco side to replace the usual V.35 DTE.
The V.35 DCE has a female connector while the V.35 DTE has a male connector.

You would also need to configure the Cisco to provide the clocking ( by
default cisco
gets its clock from the TELCO ( DCE side) )
this can be done by :

router# conf ter
router# int s0
router# clock rate 64000

this will place the cisco router in DCE mode.
Be sure to use PPP as your encapsulation on both routers.

to see what is happening on the cisco router on ppp negotiation
do a:

router# debug ppp nego
