The value of the members for life is simply the recognition of their
contributions to PLUG and the community and nothing else. This is like
providing a honorary doctorate degree to somebody -- in the case of
UP, he/she is nominated by the University Council and then approved by
the Board of Regents.

Making the founders life members is to give them due recognition.
Adding to the list of life-members may or may not be an annual
exercise like the Queen of UK knighting its subjects. And no, it will
not give an elitist atmosphere since there is he/she gets NO other
benefit except for not having to pay the annual membership dues, if
there is even one or is very minimal at that. The same way that
honorary doctorates do not get promoted due to having a PhD or DSc or
JD but thru merit.
