Alex disconnected the speaker phone when Rachel hung up and turned her eyes
to Derek. "She's been relatively healthy other than this. Just normal
childhood illnesses. And she's extremely bright with an I/Q that's far
above average." She smiled a little, "I should pull my own medical records
and see what my doctors have to say about me, they seem to record every
feeling and observation they have whether it relates to why you're there or
not."

Derek nodded absently at her comment, only to sigh and rub his face before
asking "How can a mother do this to a child? My mother.... she never did
this to me, ever."

And why wasn't he told he had a daughter? All this time, and living as she
had to - in pain and ignorance.

No matter what or when or how they found Alyssa's mother, one thing was
certain: Derek was angry by what she had done and not done. And the woman
would have another thing coming if she thought to keep him out of Alyssa's
life or to continue this nonsense about keeping Alyssa in pain and drugged
up just because she didn't want to acknowledge the Gift.
