You are running a recent version on NTP, I suppose? NTP 4.2.7p26 or
later?
That's not _released_. None of the major Linux distros have it.
It would help tremendously if NTPD were not released once a decade (so
it seems), but a bit more often - like at least yearly.

It works just as well as the release version here - actually better in many
respects. I know the NTP folk are trying to get 4.2.8 out of the door as
soon as possible. If I was running a server farm, I would be testing the
latest 4.2.7 as top priority and getting it installed throughout. I'm
running 4.2.7p432 here on FreeBSD, Windows and Linux systems.
Fully agreed with a yearly snapshot release, Martin.
