Hi,

I tried to run SMSQmulator on my 2Ghz, single CPU laptop, under M$Vista.
It started up first time and has not crashed, great so far.

But I find it VERY slow, much slower than a standard QL, even QPC1 on my
i486/25Mhz laptop is faster.
It's so slow you can see lines being drawn and paper filling by line of
the startup windows, with pauses, despite the 100% processor speed.

Well yes, SMSQmulator isn't a hare, but this is excessively slow.

I thought so too.

I run the Java 7 version. According to my Configuration\Programs list I
have both 6 (upd 5) and 7 (Upd 9) on my system. Can that be a problem?

No.

I used QPC2 to create a QXL.win boot file but when I started
SMSQmulator, QPC2 came to a complete standstill.

This is probably due to SMSQmulator hogging all the CPU time.

Normal W$ programs don't seem to be slowed down (pdf reader, browser).
When QPC2 is running the processor is often at 100%, regardless of what SMSQ is actually doing.
Also having 3 QPC's running doesn't slow each one down.

So I removed that, and started it again.
It ran the boot sequence but that took some 20 minutes (10 secs on QPC2).

For brief moments I can see the mouse movement but it goes in slomo
after a few seconds and the pointer is then gone for about 10 seconds
after each move.

Any suggestions?

No, not really.

What else is running on the machine (antivirus?)
It can't be that the puzzle takes "only" 19 secs to start on a raspberry, but that the boot should take 20 minutes on yours. Spmething is wrong but I fon't know what. How much memory does your computer have?.

Normally SMSQmulator shouldn't be more than 10 times slower than QPC...

Wolfgang

My system has 3MiB of memory and at the time of testing today only Opera
was actually running and two Adobe Reader windows are opened for the manuals. Also Task-Manager is started to see the system data (processor 100%, memory at 53%).

I have ZoneAlarm (firewall) & AVG (anti-virus) active while W$ own Defender is switched off. Also McAfee is present (installed as part of a program update, I forgot which one) but it is not mentioned in the Config/Defence-Centre menu (ZA & AVG are).
The McAfee panel does not have a switch off option.

In new boot tests the startup windows are drawn quite fast, also the resizing as part of my boot goes OK but then the extensions prompts are done letter by letter, about writing speed, with occasionally whole lines at once. ED also fills the window letter by letter and then a few lines at once, very erratic. When the cursor finally arrives it blinks twice and then stops for up to 10 secs.
