If you can identify a few users who are most likely to experience the problem, you could perhaps set up debug tracing for just those users.I would just like to comment that we, as a ISP, have had this problem with several Outlook clients that leave mail on the server. We have not been able to figure out why, it goes across multiple versions of both Outlook, Outlook Express, and Windows. It is possible that it happens with non-Outlook clients, but the majority of our customer base (10,000+ pop accounts) runs Outlook. It seems to get worse if more mail is left on the server (e.g. several thousand messages), which leads me to believe it's a client error and not a server one, but who knows. It's more evident when the customer has one client set to delete mail and one client set to leave it, e.g. delete at home and leave it at work. I'd say most of the complaints about it are in that situation. Over the last year we've received at least 20 complaints, we use qpopper4 under Linux with Exim as an MTA. Sometime mid-year we switched to Exim from Sendmail, It would be safe to say all of the complaints happened while we were running Sendmail. Maybe that's a clue?
