Our Focus has the 1.8 Endura t/c engine I think the common rail engine would have been used from 2002, we bought ours in 2000. Our previous 1.8 diesel Escort estate had a 1.8 naturally aspirated diesel of a different design. it was a J reg which I guess must have been somewhere around 1990. Although the Endura only develops about 90 bhp it pulls like a train even on French mountain roads and comfortably exceeded 110 mph on a German autobahn. On a very quiet back road with a marked gradient it climbed a 1 in 6 hill on tickover. With about 120 000 miles to its credit it still gets close to 50 mpg in mixed running. It does benefit from having been 'born' before catalytic reactors were compulsory on diesels. Michael
