Remember the Mondeo has larger wheels and rolling radius than the
Fiesta/Escort
You need to put those in the spreadsheet as well.
I would probably fit a Mk3 Fiesta Diesel clutch.

To confuse myself further, I tried looking up the various ratios
involved.
I was surprised to find that the final drive of the Mondeo is a lot
lower than the ERST.
ERST has:
Final drive = 3.82:1
1st = 3.15 Overall = 12.03
2nd = 1.91 Overall = 7.3
3rd = 1.28 Overall = 4.89
4th = 0.95 Overall = 3.63
5th = 0.76 Overall = 2.9
Mondeo TD has:
Final drive = 4.06:1
1st = 3.666 Overall = 14.88
2nd = 2.047 Overall = 8.31
3rd = 1.258 Overall = 5.11
4th = 0.864 Overall = 3.51
5th = 0.674 Overall = 2.74
Percentage difference works out at:
1st = 80.85
2nd = 87.79
3rd = 95.73
4th = 103.45
5th = 106.09
So in 5th the engine would have to rpm at 106% in top to maintain the
same speed. 6% difference is not so bad, and should give me some more
poke on the motorways. In the Mondeo, 2500rpm equates to about 70mph.
2650rpm instead of 2500rpm for the same speed isn't going to be a huge
issue.
The bottom gears are a LOT longer, though.
80% engine rpm for the same speed is enormous.
Good job diesels are torquey, I'll need it to get moving..
Or have I got my figures/maths completely wrong?
I'll also have to do something about the heavy clutch while it's all
apart - maybe fit an XR3i item in place of the ERST one.
