Yes, performance from this engine was always pretty good, despite the
less-than-impressive statistics. The book reckons a top end of 125mph,
which is pretty good for a large estate and certainly fast enough for
me.
Acceleration isn't awesome but is adequate, and would certainly be
acceptable in a lighter Quantum.
The only bugbear I had with it was continual oil leaks.
Hopefully these will be easy to sort with the engine out.
I've just driven the Mondeo for the first time since the bump, and it's
pulling to the left a little. Probably enough to guarantee a place in
the write-off category. I'll continue to use it until the insurance
company decide what to do. (And keep a close eye on front tyre wear in
the meantime).
Many thanks for the offer of finding parts, but it's now all in the
hands of the insurers.
If they decide to write it off, I'll try to retain the salvage and keep
it as a runnable car until I can afford a decent replacement rather than
a rush-buy of an old banger. That will keep the engine fresh until I'm
prepared for a transplant into the Q.
At least being all Ford I should avoid compatibility problems with
things like driveshafts. But the clutch is hydraulic, which might be a
poser.
Would this mean I need to re-use my ERST gearbox?
