Could the fact that the Globe through the NYT owns part of the Red Sox have had
any role in the way the story was played?

I share Tom's concern about this ownership. Every time someone leaves the team,
that person gets smeared. If I had to guess, it's mostly the dark arts of
Lucchino at work. Is he really that friggin' valuable to the operation that
he's kept around?

Well, I did say they weren't racists.

Anyway,  I look forward to Lucchino's blistering defense of Francona in
tomorrow's paper. Or perhaps he can address the question of why they'd let a
drug-addled person manage a major league ball club.
